According to rumors, Apple’s planning to redesign the MacBook Pro near the end of 2026. Let’s start with the design. It’ll be significantly thinner than the current generation of MacBooks, although still made of aluminum, of course, so it’s relatively lightweight. It’ll also have the same 14- and 16-in display sizes, but now with OLED technology.
So, you get those true black colors and unmatched contrast compared to the previous mini-LED technology. But, these are not just standard OLED panels. These are going to be touch screen OLED panels. As Apple is actually going to be adding a touch surface to the main display on a MacBook, which feels so strange. Even so, the screen is going to look way more futuristic with Apple getting rid of the notch on here and adding Dynamic Island to a new product outside of the iPhone. We’re getting Dynamic Island on the MacBook Pro with live activities and everything else.
But, elsewhere, not everything is going to be new on this MacBook Pro. Like we were expecting, naturally, to see the M6 generation of chips debut with this new design. But, according to a new report, Apple is going to recycle the current generation M5 Pro and M5 Max chips that you can buy readily today. Now, the reason for this is likely they just don’t have enough RAM to go around for both the M5 and M6 generation concurrently with the global RAM shortage. But, using the same chips in a new design,
I don’t think it’s something Apple has ever done before, and it’ll definitely make this MacBook Pro feel like less of an upgrade than it otherwise would have been. Either way, it appears this new MacBook Pro will have Apple’s most advanced wireless ever, for the first time adding 5G cellular connectivity on a MacBook. This one has actually been leaked by Apple in code, so it seems like this is pretty much 100% confirmed for this generation. And I’ll be honest, I will pay whatever amount it takes to get cellular on my MacBook. That is an option I’ve always wanted, and that makes the upgrade worth it for me alone.
